Oh so long ago back in the early 90's I was working for a comic publisher called London Night Studios on a book called Razor. She was one of the first 'Bad Girl' comics out there if not the first. Her success allowed me to hone my skills inbetween working at Valiant comics and DC comics, my inking skills I should say. I had many, very long conversation with penciler Richard Pollard about Razor and about how it could be an awesome book. It wasn't bad, it had its success, and it made a very good career for Evertte the publisher....but for us at the time working on the book I think we got some copies and that's pretty much it. So me and Rich chatted & chatted....& chatted, and thus was born the spark that would become Bright Eyes!
A little later in my career I worked on the independent comic called Valentine with my new friend Dan Cooney. Valentine was a smarter 'Bad Girl' comic that I was thrilled to be a small part of. I wasn't making any cash off of it so eventually I left, but before I did a few things happened. I met a girl named Maja who became one of my inking assistants but most importantly became one of my best friends....and because Maja is who she is, further defined my character Bright Eyes! (A lot of who Bright Eyes will be is heavily influenced by Maja, at least as I see her which maybe is a bit skewed but with love!) The other event that took place was something that didn't come to be...I was going to do a back up story featuring Bright Eyes within Valentine (if you have a copy of the issues of Valentine you'll see a pinup ad in the back of one!) Artisticly I wasn't ready. I was a good inker (still learning) but I didn't pencil comics, I could add up the amount of pages I penciled in my life at that point. I wanted to be better.
Time went on, I inked a hundred or so more books, years passed, times changed, the industry changed.
I also had other creations I wanted to do, one older (Retro) others newer (Neon Eden & Gothic Space) ...I struggled in my career as an inker, explored more, newer options....decided regardless of where my pencil work was quality wise I'd start soon. I set up blogspots to post pages for Bright Eyes & Neon Eden (not the best way to do a web comic but would do.) http://www.brighteyeswebcomic.blogspot.com/ http://www.neonedenwebcomic.blogspot.com/
More time passed, I moved to Kentucky for a few years (born and bred in NYC) bad times hit everyone, I still didn't do any real pages...plus when it comes to doing more than traditional work I was a bit lost. I took some time in KY to get familiar with computers and how to get around the web...but I'd still needed help with the production of the webcomics, and coloring... enter some of my friends & my studio Human Art Studio expansion! http://peterpalmiotti.blogspot.com/
My friend Dan Monroe let me know about Comic Fury (go check out his comic here called Ye Gawds! http://yegawds.thecomicseries.com/ ) My friend Alan Abbadessa will be handling lettering, and Jonny Ledford will do my production and design with me. Just need to fill the coloring spot, and I already put the word out.
So, got most of my crew together, and going to do now what I wanted all those years ago....write & draw my own darn web comics!
Both strips will begin in a few weeks time, or less if I can help it!
Join me, why do't cha! :)
Peter.
